Daniel BurkettThompson, CT – The Atlantic Championship Series started its final practice day of the 2014 season at Thompson Speedway on Friday morning, with K-Hill’s Daniel Burkett setting the pace. Burkett’s fastest lap was a 1:02.139, which he attained during the afternoon practice session. The driver from Winnipeg, who will clinch the championship on Saturday’s race, was able to shave off about sixth tenths of a second off his morning time to set that fast lap. Ethan Ringel was the only other driver able to keep up with Burkett and get a lap in the 1:02’s.

Daniel BurkettSalem, NH - The culmination of the 2014 Atlantic Championship comes down to the final two races of the season at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut. Daniel Burkett has the championship title tightly in his grasp, however, there are a couple extreme situations that could jeopardize it for him. The young Canadian driver’s biggest competition comes from American Atlantic Creations driver Jimmy Simpson, who currently sits second in points. It would take a very strong performance from Simpson at Thompson and some bad luck for Burkett in order for Simpson to take the title.

Formula Race Promotions has scheduled the 2014 Atlantic Championship Series awards ceremony for Saturday night at Thompson Speedway, August 30.

The celebrations begin at 6:30pm at the track, with light food and drink being served. All participants (drivers, teams, crew, staff, etc) from Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 are invited.

The points leader was relegated to third spot, falling some five seconds behind. But the K-Hill Motorsport driver wasted no time in passing Jimmy Simpson and then Ethan Ringel to take his sixth win on the season, resetting the track record along the way.

(photo: Jeff Loewe)Lexington, OH – Daniel Burkett, driver of the Swift 016 #4 K-Hill Motorsports car, secured his second pole position of the Mid-Ohio race weekend. Burkett set the fastest time in Sunday’s session with a 1:16.998, which was a few tenths off his record setting time from Saturday’s qualifying session. Starting next to him on the grid will be Ethan Ringel, of COMPREP, who stood on the podium with Burkett on Saturday. Starting third in Sunday’s race is Jimmy Simpson, driving the Orange and White Atlantic Creations car. Simpson took the win on Saturday’s race, by getting a good start from second. We shall see what he can do from third. Ringel’s COMPREP teammate, Matt Miller, will be starting 4th, with Richard Zober of Comprent Motorsports starting 5th.
